I met my soulmate in Scottsdale (while I was still in Mason City and he lived in Kansas City). We reunited at a meeting in Atlanta, got together AFTER that meeting........and that was it. We had our first date on 12.12.03 in Des Moines, I moved to KC on 4.1.04 and we got married on Sanibel Island, FL on 12.12.04; the anniversary of our first date. And in fact, we are heading to Sanibel next weekend for an early birthday celebration!
4 years ago in August, we moved to Florida (first Palm Harbor for 9 months and then bought a townhouse in Tampa). We absolutely LOVE it here and honestly can't imagine living anywhere else. We love the sunshine, the humidity, the palm trees, the ocean, the beaches. We workout together every morning before we both head to our fantastic jobs that we actually both love. On the weekends, we ride bikes, hang at the pool, head to the beach. We are outdoors all weekend. We are truly blessed, grateful and thankful for our life together. We have Eddie, our 10 year old Maltese and Jim has 2 grandchildren from his first marriage - Leah, shown in one of the photos that we adore and Asher, who was just born in June of this year.
I wish you all health and happiness in your years to come.
Love, Kimmy

We lived in Colorado Springs for a few years and eventually moved to Gilbert, Arizona. We have lived there for 24 years. We love the weather and being outdoors.
Both my husband and I are nurses and enjoy what we do! Our hours allow us to be versatile and allow us time off to travel. We love going to the Caribbean and Mexico. Hanging out at the beach is one of our favorite things to do! We love football and can’t wait for it to start! The Hawkeyes and the Minnesota Vikings are our teams. We also are avid Cubs fans and love spring training here in Arizona.
Both our daughters are married, and we are very lucky to have great son-in-law’s! We recently became first time grandparents. Very exciting time in our life!

Shortly thereafter, we decided to move to Sacramento, California. I worked for Sprint and Aerojet (a defense contractor), before following my hubby back to school at California State University for our Masters degrees. I received an M.A. in English (Writing Pedagogy and Victorian Literature). I also was the Coordinator of the Writing Center and an instructor in the English department. We had our first son, Alexander, in August 1989.
We decided to move back to Maryland in 1995 and we settled in Mount Airy (about 35 miles north of D.C.). We had our second son, Nicholas, in 1997.
I taught English and writing classes when we first moved back, but over time I have worked in school libraries too. I am currently a freelance writer and children’s book writer/editor. I have also become interested in local and state politics.
My older son, Alex, graduated from college and works/lives in Reston, Virginia, and our youngest, Nick, is enrolled at our alma mater, University of Maryland, College Park, in the Mathematics/Statistics program.
Our family passion has been travel! We’ve taken a cruise to Alaska, a cruise to Italy, been to England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Austria, Montenegro, Canada and Spain. My hubby and I recently bought a brand new 2018 Winnebago, so we can explore more of the U.S. and Canada – just the two of us!

MASON CITY - Carol Diane (Askeland) Sullivan passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, November 4th, 2020 in Mason City.
We have 2 amazing granddaughters that have grown so fast. Maddy was a cheerleader and dance team member. She joined the Army National guard and is starting her second year at UNI. Her sister Maggie is a sophomore in band, choir and student senate.
We enjoy traveling and try to do a big trip every couple of years, love going to concerts and try to camp when the weather cooperates. I am still quiet and keep to myself most of the time, unlike Pat who talks to everyone he meets. I guess we make a good pair.
She was born May 2nd, 1960 to Katherine (Legler) and Ralph Askeland in Mason City. Carol graduated from Mason City High School in 1978. She then married the love of her life Patrick Sullivan on February 9th, 1979. Together they had two children, Miranda Brey and Patrick Dennis.
Together, they traveled many places with Patrick's Army career including Kentucky, Germany, California and Hawaii before returning to Mason City, Iowa to settle.
Carol's early career was filled with management positions at Hardees and Kmart for many years before she attended NIACC for her nursing degree. She then pursued her career in nursing at the Manly Care Center and most recently was employed at Homestead Assisted Living.
Carol enjoyed camping, shopping, traveling, gambling, spending time with her family and drinking wine. She took pride in her two granddaughters Madeline and Margaret and their accomplishments. She was always around to be the voice of reason and lend a helping hand. Carol was never one to complain or wallow and always had a solution.
Carol is survived by her spouse of 41 years, Patrick. Her daughter Miranda (Mark) Kruse and son Patrick Jr. (Summer) Sullivan both of Mason City; granddaughters Madeline and Margaret Kruse of Mason City; mother, Katherine Askeland and siblings Ralph Jr (Hilda) Askeland, Connie (Steve) Menuey, Carmen Jepsen, Duane (Cindy) Askeland, Bradley Askeland and Kimberly Askeland; as well as aunts, an uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Preceding her in death are her father, Ralph Askeland Sr.; mother and father-in-law, Kenneth and Callie Sullivan; grandparents, Arthur and Ovedia Askeland and Fritz and Marjorie Legler; a brother-in-law, Terry Jepsen; as well as numerous extended family members.
**
In February 1979, I married Patrick Sullivan. Pat had joined the Army and was stationed at Ft. Knox , Kentucky. While in Kentucky our daughter ,Miranda was born. Our next move was to Gelnhausen, Germany, where our son Patrick Jr was born. Next move was Fort Ord, California then on to Schofield Barracks Hawaii.
We enjoyed traveling but when Pat’s Dad became ill we moved back to Mason City. Both of the kids are happily married to wonderful spouses.
After being back for a few years I went back to college and earned my nursing degree. I had gone to college for the summer semester after graduating and found way too much partying. Wasn’t for me.

Looking forward to this summer.

Upon the high school graduation of his son, Peter, Tom returned to Decorah in 2016 to tackle his dream of reviving the family’s centennial farm west of town. The family wishes to also thank the many friends and acquaintances in Decorah who extended kindness to Tom.
From 2018 reunion self-submit:
I spent 30+ years in suburban Milwaukee - you know Chicago's little brother.
Along the way I contracted stage 4 Lymphoma. I was lucky to have a fantastic team of ER doctors and an awesome Oncologist. That was 9 years ago.
In 2016 when my son Pete graduated from high school and was off to college, I made the big move to Decorah.
I renovated my Great Grandparent's 100's farm house. And now it's me and my crazy dog Maggie.
