I met a wonderful man online in 1997 and have been married for 19 years now. My husband is currently working as a chef. I have one son age 35 from a previous marriage. No grandchildren yet, but there is always hope! We currently reside in Ankeny, IA, but I am looking for a teaching position, so we will move anywhere once I find a job.

I earned my PhD in the Apparel, Merchandising, and Design Program at Iowa State University and graduated May 2017.  I have enjoyed working with fibers most of my life, and have developed a strong interest in art quilting, wearable art and costuming. My work has included surface design, digital textile printing, and apparel design.   I find my inspiration comes from a variety of sources including nature, geometry, and art glass. As a fiber artist and quilter, I like to inspire others to try art quilting as a form of creative self-expression. My research areas of interest include entrepreneurship of quilt shop owners, surface design, art quilting and how quilting relates to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), and apparel design.

I am an Internal Auditor for JQH Corp.  My hub is located at the Chateau on the Lake Resort and Spa in Branson, Missouri.

Attended NIACC after graduating from Mason City High School in 1978 and continued my financial education at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio.

Bringing in over $3 million in new money accounts for Unizan Bank within a year, earned me a position as a Bank Branch Manager.  After many years of working in the banking industry and surviving 5 bank robberies in Ohio, I decided to continue working with numbers in a less hostile industry in the tranquil Ozark Mountains.

When not glued to a calculator/adding machine or on a computer excel spread sheets, I relax and take advantage of the wonderful entertainment that Branson has to offer and try hard not to be worst singer in the show's audiences.

Candy Evans O'Malley - November 27, 2015
Candyce Evans O’Malley of San Jose, Calif., 55, died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Nov. 27, 2015, after an eight-year battle with neuroendocrine cancer.

She was born in Mason City, Iowa March 9, 1960 to Frank and Beverly Evans. Candyce was a positive inspiration to family and friends throughout her life, most notably showing strength, love and light to all during her illness.

Candyce received her business degree from the University of Iowa (Go Hawkeyes) and later moved to Chicago where she met her husband, Kevin, in 1996. She worked as marketing director at Michael Reese Hospital and later started her own desktop publishing business.

She was a Midwest girl at heart, but Northern California became the family’s new home in 1997. She fell in love with California and made sure her two children, Ryan and Faith, took advantage of its beauty, history, culture and recreation, teaching them to appreciate life and all the area had to offer.

Her children were the light of her life and she was both devoted and close to each of them. She also valued her great friendships.

Candyce is preceded in death by her father, Frank Evans, and nephew, Scott Evans. She is survived by her husband, Kevin; her son, Ryan, and her daughter, Faith; her mother, Beverly; her brother, Greg (Janet); niece, Natalie (Daniel) and new great nephew, Malachi; her aunt, Colleen; and her cousin, Karen (Steve) and son, Danny.

A memorial service for Candyce will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, at the Stone Church in Willow Glen, San Jose, Calif. An afternoon memorial party will be held over the hill in Santa Cruz from 1 to 4:30 p.m. At Candyce’s request she asked that attendees wear bright colors at both events in celebration of her life.

In lieu of flowers, a foundation is being created in Candyce’s name to help fund much-needed neuroendocrine tumor research at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Sue Everds Antol
I graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Industrial Administration (Accounting) in 1982.  Building on my high school experience, I was the accompanist for one of the choirs at ISU and met my husband, Paul, when he sang in the baritone section.  We celebrated 36 years of marriage in June and have one daughter, Betsy.  We formerly lived in Ames, Rochester, MN, St. Louis, MO, and for the past 21 years we have lived in Apple Valley, MN.  Our daughter also graduated from Iowa State and is an accountant like her mom.  She moved back to the Twin Cities from Ames last summer, so it’s nice to have her living 15 minutes away instead of 3 hours away.

I have worked in healthcare for the past 34 years, in a variety of roles in accounting, revenue cycle, finance, and operations.  For the past 7 years, I have been with Minneapolis-based Allina Health, where I am currently a Senior Physician Compensation Specialist.

Paul and I enjoy traveling, cooking, eating good food, drinking good wine, and spending time with friends and family.  I am fortunate that both of my parents are still living, and they live in Owatonna, about an hour south of us.  We will be celebrating my birthday with them on the day of the reunion, so we won’t be joining you, but hope everyone has a wonderful time!

After graduation, I went to UNI.  After graduation from UNI,  I started teaching in Waterloo where I met my wonderful husband, John. It will be 30 years for us this October!

After we got married, I moved to Minnesota where I taught for several years. During that time, we adopted two children from Romania. It is hard to believe that they are now in their 20s!

In 1992, we moved back to Mason City. I started teaching at NIACC part-time, but for the last twenty years, I have been full-time. We adopted a third son, this time from the United States, and he will be a senior at MCHS in the fall.

I love to spend time with my family, travel, take walks, read books, go to Bible studies, and get together with friends. I also enjoy spending time with our two cats. Life has been very good to John and me!

After graduation, Klay DeVries and I traveled to Denton, Texas, to begin our freshman year at North Texas State University (now The University of North Texas) in August of 1978. We were both music majors in the school of music’s renowned jazz program at the time.

Klay ended up leaving after that year to enroll in St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

I knocked out general courses the first two years and then concentrated solely on becoming a professional recording session drummer.

In September of 1983, I was selected to be the drummer to perform with the Grammy-nominated O'Clock Lab Band.

In May of 1984, I recorded Lab ’84 with the band and left school to pursue a 35-year career as a recording session and concert performing professional drummer.

I worked on record albums, TV shows, movie sound tracks, commercial jingles, and have toured the world with various artists.

After suffering a career-ending back injury in 2002, I’ve been writing digital and print advertising copy for corporate, industrial, and professional services clients from all over the US.

After 15 years of rehab I’ve been able to resume limited drumming as a hobby and enjoy playing golf (quite badly … :).
