As Devoted as he was to the Military his family always came first. The Love Don Showed to his family will live in our hearts forever. This love will help us endure life without him. Don and his smile made the world a better place just by being in it.

During those
years I was married to my 1st wife who had 3 young boys before we were married.
From these 3 boys I am now blessed with 12 grandchildren. This marriage did not
work out and I moved back to Mason City in 2003 to be close to my parents during
their quality years.
I then did a 4-year stint managing implementations of medical record systems in hospitals around the country and Mason City. In 2007, I decided to put down more permanent roots in Mason City so I decided to buy the local Allstate Insurance franchise.
In 2009, I married Tami, who has 2 children from her previous marriage. Not having enough on my plate (ha, ha) I decided to also start my own real estate office in 2011.
Tami and I focus our time on family, helping kids in the area, and thanking our great Lord for every day he gives us.

We are excited to see you at the class reunion in July! Please join us!
We were married 11 years ago after reconnecting in Iowa. We currently live in Brookings, South Dakota.
Mary is retired after spending 34 years as a nurse in the operating room. She currently spends time with and assists her mother frequently (who also moved to Brookings). Mary also works every so often at a pain clinic and also guides and counsel’s women who have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Mary is often an active volunteer with her church, Cancer support group, Department of Nursing at South Dakota State University and multiple other groups when the opportunity arises. During retirement, Mary hopes to continue her travels to Europe, enjoy music and theatre when possible and stay active walking, biking and hiking.
Darryl retired from the Navy submarine force in 2000. Darryl continues to find work appealing and currently
is in maintenance at a medical clinic in Brookings. He enjoys troubleshooting, fixing and maintaining a lovely clinic for our community. Darryl enjoys nature, hiking, biking and exploring. Multiple surgeries this year have slowed him down a tad, but he is on the upswing now! Darryl has extensive collections housed in multiple places! Antiques, old bottles, vintage toys, old bones, fossils and various objects line his shelves. The "hunt" never
ends! He is a frequent Ebay consumer/seller of all things old and interesting!
We have 3 children:
John Oien, 35 - Brookings, South Dakota
Mary Oien, 31 - Beverly Hills, California
John Reed, 24 - Waterloo, Iowa
We have had no weddings, engagements or grandchildren (yet). We DO have grand "puppies" that we
love dearly, however!
We enjoy staying in touchwith classmates and friends via Facebook or email.

Cynthia Richards Walker - April 11, 2019
Cynthia A. Walker, 58, of Mason City, died April 8, 2019, at her home.
Cynthia Ann Walker, daughter of Selmer (Buster) and Mavis Richards was born on August 13, 1960 in Des Moines, IA. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1978 and continued her education earning her CNA degree. In 1985 she married Mark Walker. Following his Naval career, they lived in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba before relocating to Gulfport, MS. During that time Cindy worked in nursing homes and daycare centers as a loving care provider and enjoyed the southern climate.
Cindy always had a passion for her 4-legged children, nurturing many cats over the years. She also loved the water and spent as much time at the pool as possible. In 2006, Cindy returned to her roots in Iowa and enjoyed reconnecting with family and friends. Cindy was a true friend who maintained lifelong friendships and never forgot a birthday. Cindy’s huge heart was evident as an adoring aunt to her nieces and nephews and great niece and nephew. She loved being back in Iowa to share in their lives.
Over the years, Cindy has had many health issues including a mechanical heart valve, stroke and being vent dependent. We were proud of her perseverance and daily mantra “Put one foot in front of the other” as she fought her way through rehabilitation. She worked hard to gain strength to walk again and eventually getting back on a bicycle. She always commented how appreciative she was of her caregivers. Cindy had a strong faith in Christ and was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and active with the Arc of Central Iowa.
Cindy is survived by her siblings, David (Rachael) Richards and Susan (Craig) Porter all of West Des Moines; 6 nieces and nephews, Kendra, Jarid, Kiley and Dylan Richards and Evan and Elyse Porter; great niece and nephew, Reese and Daxton Richards. A very special aunt Lois Heflin of Alden, IA, and cousins Barb (Paul) Niedermeyer, Mary (David) Snower and Mark (Connie) Heflin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Selmer and Mavis Richards and grandparents, Bennie and Lilly Brunsvold and Ralph and Anne Richards.

Greetings from
Tampa!
I am currently
living in Florida and working on MacDill Air Force Base with the Department of
Defense in military intelligence. The path that landed me here included over 20
years as a United States Marine officer.
I graduated
from Iowa State University, was commissioned into the Marine Corps, and have
worked in various specialties during my service. I briefly left the Marines to
take a stab at the corporate world and quickly determined the Marine Corps was
the best fit for me, so I went back in.
I was in the Gulf War and participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
I met my wife,
Kathy, at Iowa State and we have lived in various locals from the East Coast to
the West Coast of the country. We have 2 beautiful daughters that we adopted
from China. They are teens now and keep us busy!
We’ve been in
Florida for 15 years and plan to stay. We enjoy going to the beaches and the
Florida lifestyle.
I have fond
memories of Mason City High School and wish everyone the best.
Paul Robinson
After
graduation I went to NIACC for two years then went to UNI. I decided I wanted
to live in the Twin Cities so I finished at the University of St. Thomas (UST)
in St. Paul with degrees in Marketing Management and International Business. A
few years after graduation from UST I went back to school and got my MBA in
International Management.
One of
my first jobs, I worked in contracts for an aerospace instrument manufacturer.
Pretty cool job. With my French I got to travel and work on several European
aircraft developments for aircraft flying today; Airbus A330/340, Aerospatiale
ATR 42/72, Dassault Rafale/Falcon Jet, and Eurofighter Typhoon.
In the
early 90’s I left that job and went to work for a company in Bloomington, MN
that made computer networking and telecom test equipment. Dream job! Over the
span of six+ years I traveled extensively. I lost track at around 55 countries
but got to visit many on a frequent basis. It was a lot of fun, but that much
travel wore me out.
Somewhere
in there I got married. When we decided to start a family, I decided I didn’t
want to be on the other side of the planet missing anniversaries, birthdays,
events, etc. so I went for more of a local/domestic job. After a couple
hit/misses in jobs I got a job with British Telecom, in their professional
services group, as a cyber security engineer. Another cool job, but one that
has been a TON of stress.
I got
married in the early 90s to a woman I met at the aerospace company. We had two
kids; Zoe (20) who is a student at UST and Spencer (19) who will,
hopefully, be at the University of MN – Duluth in the Fall. Zoe is working on
degrees in Human Rights and Justice and Peace Studies, with minors in Woman Studies
and Theology. Spencer has set his sights on mechanical engineering with hope to
work in robotics.
In 2015
my wife of 23 years decided she wasn’t happy and wanted out of the marriage.
Although a little of a surprise, it has been for the better. I am happy now
living in my townhome in Savage, MN.
A few
years ago, I bought a 40’ diesel pusher motorhome. I found it on Craigslist in
Lincoln, NE. It was 18 years old and had 18,000 miles. It is a blast to drive!
The past three years the kids and I, and a few of their friends, have gone on
some really cool cross-country trips. The first year we did the South Dakota
stops, Devils Tower, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas,
Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Four Corners and home through Colorado.
Second year was across the top of US to Washington, Oregon, then to Redwoods,
and finally San Francisco. This year we went east to Maine coming back home
through Canada. Next year we are hoping to see turtles hatch in South Carolina.
These are great trips, but I know, as the kids graduate and get real jobs, they
are going to end.
