During retirement, Mary hopes to continue her travels to Europe, enjoy music and theatre when possible and stay active walking, biking and hiking.
Darryl retired from the Navy submarine force in 2000. Darryl continues to find work appealing and currently

Barb Bogard Weiner – September 28, 2016
Barb “Barbie” was born May 9, 1960, in Estherville, Iowa, the daughter of Carroll S. and Barbara (Moseley) Bogard. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1978.
Barb married Sam Booth Jr. on April 14, 1984. Following Sam’s death in 1989, Barb attended a “Stepping Forward” support group where she would meet Richard Weiner.
Dick and Barb were married Sept. 14, 1990, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Rockford. Dick, who had three children, Dustin, Bobby and Kelli Jo with his late spouse, and Barb, who had one child, Sammy, with hers, began their life together. They would later have 1 son together, Charlie (a.k.a. the Golden Child).
Barb quickly stepped up to the challenge of raising five children at home, where she excelled at being the mother that everyone needed. With all of the kids grown up, and only Charlie still in school, she went to work for the Central Springs School District, as a “Lunch Lady.”
Barb and Dick loved traveling, especially to Las Vegas, New Orleans, The Black Hills, and numerous trips to Mexico. Some of the most memorable were her travels just this past year to Mexico with family and a trip with her father, siblings, and other family members to The Black Hills. The spreading of her mother’s ashes in memorable locations in The Black Hills was a major step in the grieving process after the loss of her mother this past year.
In 2011, they purchased a home overlooking the Mississippi River in Clayton, Iowa. Barb and Dick found their new passion of boating, entertaining family and friends, and enjoying the peacefulness of the river.
Some of her special interests included cooking, sewing, flower gardening, shopping and, of course, spending time with her 11 grandchildren. Barb also had a love for animals, especially her black Labs throughout the years; Shappa, Rambo and Angel, and of course her cat, Mabel.
Barb and Dick were active members at Holy Name Catholic Church where Barb was a CCD teacher for many years. It must be noted that she was a very giving person; both in her wonderful taste in gift-giving and in her love to others.
Barb is survived by her husband, Richard of Nora Springs, five children and eleven grandchildren: Samuel V. Booth III of Mason City and his children, Aleesia McWilliams-Booth and ZaMora Briner; Dustin (Andrea) Weiner of Ankeny and their children, Claire, Harper and Wyatt; Bobby (Katie) Weiner of Mason City and their children, Robert Jr., Oliver, William and Frederick; Kelli Jo (Jake) Heimer of Nora Springs and their children, Thad and Karli; Charlie Weiner of Ames and girlfriend, Schyler Sundvold; Barb’s father, Carroll S. Bogard of Mason City; brother, Jeff (Susie) Bogard of Golden, Colorado; sister, Liz Bogard Ivonavitch (Jim) of Mason City; many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
Barb was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel V. Booth Jr., and her mother, Barbara Jane Bogard.

After high school, I attended NIACC for two years and worked as
the Science Dept. Lab Aid at MCHS. During that time, I also volunteered
with the Iowa Refuge Services education program for Southeast Asians settling
in Mason City. In 1980, I transferred to the University of Iowa and
received a BS in General Sciences with a minor in religion and then a Masters
in Secondary Science Education.
I’ve lived in the Chicago area since 1986. Initially, I
taught for eight years at the Washburne School in Winnetka teaching seventh and
eighth science and serving as the science department chair. While I loved
Washburne and the community I wanted more of a challenge; you can only go so
deep in content with middle schoolers. I moved to Libertyville High
School in 1994 teaching freshman biology and then adding the honors level
biology. When the district built a second high school in 1999 I transferred
to Vernon Hills High and have taught Biology Honors and Advanced Placement
Biology for eighteen years. Our school is very diverse with forty
different languages spoken in the homes. In every class, I have students
with Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Hindu religious backgrounds along with
others. This diversity has enhanced our school in so many ways.
Over the years, in addition to teaching, I’ve worked with student
teachers and mentored teachers new to our school. I picked up a second
master’s degree, this time in Biology, from Northeastern Illinois University in
Chicago. Beyond academics, I sang for many years in a faculty men’s
quartet, helped chaperone three trips to Europe, coached the Science Olympiad
team and served as the sponsor for two clubs, Future Medical Professionals and
the Straight and Gay Alliance. Outside of school, I’ve been involved in
various church activities including singing in several choirs, been an advisor
for senior high fellowship, and gone on many summer mission trips. For
twelve years I’ve lived in a condo in Skokie with the skyline of Chicago as the
view from my balcony.
When I was in high school I never thought life would lead to the
immensely wonderful and rewarding job as an educator. Over the years I’ve
been so fortunate to have taught students who attended universities across the
country and the world; students who are now doctors, lawyers, university
professors, professional musicians, and entrepreneurs. Without a doubt,
this is what God wanted for my life. I love what I do and feel incredibly
blessed to have worked in school districts that value rigorous academic and
arts programs as well as their teachers!

Our family lives in the Mason City/Clear Lake area, so we make
frequent trips back. We enjoy spending
time with them, but also enjoy the constant activities in Sioux Falls.
I joined the Marine Corp after a
few years out of High School. I am proud of my experience and made
life-long friends. After the Marines, I
moved back to Clear Lake.
I have tried many hobbies over the
years. I have skydived, mountain paragliding, run 10K races, trail rode
and raced snowmobiles, restored classic cars, camping, trail rode and broke
horses, golfed, and I still enjoy scuba diving. After riding motorcycles
for many years, I settled on Harley touring bikes. We made many trips taking only 2 lane back
roads. We loved to travel through small
town America. Unfortunately, I had an
accident 4 years ago and broke my neck. Since then, I was active with the
Corvette Classic which takes place in the Black Hills of South Dakota. For exercise, we walk and I now ride a
recumbent trike to bicycle with Kimmy around Sioux Falls 30 miles of paved
trails. We hope to travel more in the
near future.
Life is precious and I strive to
make the most of every day!

Where am I now? Fort Lauderdale, Florida - By the way we have a big house down here and love company!
Favorite High School Memory? Yikes, probably all of the time spent in the “Green” room at the old High school building during the plays or spent hanging around Mr. Giese’s office area.
No real interesting facts except I am qualified as a workaholic. I do love to travel and have been all over the world – mainly for work. I still enjoy the theater very much – have season tickets to the Broward Center for Performing Arts, and have recently enjoyed watching my daughter as she has started being involved in the drama program at her school.
Coming to reunion? Yes, and I am bringing my daughter with me.
- Marital Status: Married to John Theiss. 20 Anniversary this year!
- Kids? Two kids. Son John, 19 and a freshman attending Broward College here in Florida. Daughter Tessa, 15, is a freshman in High School.
- Grandkids? Nope hopefully not for a while.
- Pets? Have a dog Shadow who is a 7 year old Blue Lacey Mix.
- Working? Yes, currently Senior Director IT at Brightstar Corporation based in Miami, been here 5 years.
