After 20 years raising our children, Leigh recently became an escrow officer at a title company. She has transitioned incredibly well as this was a big adjustment. Prior to having children, Leigh worked for Compaq Computer (now HP Inc). She is a graduate of the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama and raised in Houston.
We have two great children who are both in college. They are only one year apart in school, so we have endured the pain of multiple college tuition payments simultaneously. Our son, Mark (22), is a senior at TCU where he is a finance major at the Neeley School of Business. Our daughter, Grace (20), is a junior at The University of Texas where she is majoring in finance at the McCombs School of Business and Spanish in the honors liberal arts program. Both kids have had internships in Dallas this summer and it has been nice to have them home. We have enjoyed watching them grow, mature and develop.
With our kids in college, we have now entered the phase of life that we affectionately call “Empty Nest Gone Wild.” We can finally do the adult things we have wanted to do but put on hold raising our kids. We are having a lot of fun and enjoying life and are doing things we have not been able to do in over 20 years and it is great! In our free time, we enjoy scuba diving, fresh and saltwater fishing, boating, hanging out at our lake house, cooking (I have become pretty good at smoking meats), dinner and drinks with friends, attending sporting events and anything else that sounds like fun.
I have practiced law with the same law firm (Locke Lord LLP) for 33 years (the entire time I have lived in Dallas). We are a full service law firm ranked among the top U.S. law firms. I have been a partner for over 25 years in the corporate section where I focus on mergers and acquisitions, business, securities and antitrust law and represent clients in a variety of industries, including energy (oil and gas), media and manufacturing. I have been named one of the Best Lawyers in America for Corporate Law. I graduated from The University of Iowa with a degree in finance and from The University of Michigan law school.

I was a school teacher for a few years before being a full-time
housewife and mother. In 1989, we moved to Minneapolis as Gil took a new
job. I got my masters degree in 1995 and worked as a substitute teacher
once both my children were in school. In 2007, Gil and I divorced.
I got a job as a manager of a group home for four ladies with
developmental disabilities. I continue to work at that group home, when I
am in MN, as a program counselor. In 2011, I had stopped being a program
manager at the group home, and started my own small business, Leave it to Lynn.
I continue to do that business today on a part-time basis.
In 2015, I moved to the Austin, TX area to be near my daughter
(my son lives in Hollywood, CA). I say that I moved to live in a resort
as I live in Sun City, which is a playground for older adults. After my
divorce, I had a boyfriend (Bob), on and off over the years, but we are now
off, permanently. So, I am a single lady who loves to play: cards,
pickleball, bike, exercise, travel, watch sports on TV, do Bible study, relax
and just enjoy life.
I have a super blessed life and I am so happy God has given it
to me. I look forward to seeing all of you at our reunion in July.

Laura Kleinow Wheeler
Hi Everyone:

I married Steve Wheeler (MCHS 1979) in 1985 and we have moved for his job several times since then. I attended our 10 yr class reunion and was 8 months pregnant having our son, Stuart, a month later. We had our daughter Stephanie in 1992.
My favorite memories of HS are of band, jazz band, choir and friends so both of our kids were in band, show choir, cross country, soccer, and numerous academic activities, which kept us busy. Both our kids are now married and we have two beautiful daughter-in-laws. Stuart and his wife, Marybeth, live in Washington State where Marybeth was recruited as a nurse practitioner to serve an underserved population and they wanted to have a new adventure. Stuart has started his own business, Third Generation Cotton Candy, which keeps Steve and I busy during the summer as we do the Cedar Rapids Farmer’s Market for him hoping they will move back in a couple of years. The old cliché “when life hands you lemons, make lemonade” is literally what we do, as we sell cotton candy, lemonade, smoothies and shaved ice for his business. Stephanie and her wife, Ariel, live in Cedar Rapids and Stephanie is a production scientist. No grandkids at this time but we have 3 awesome grand dogs.
We decided to settle in Cedar Rapids so we would not have to keep moving with Steve’s job. We have been here this time for 18 years. I have had great opportunities in my nursing profession and have loved every position I have experienced. I was able to finish my Master’s degree before my son graduated HS as it took me a few years since I started before he was born.
I took an early retirement from Cedar Rapids Community Schools as a school nurse 2 years ago and currently work full-time for MercyCare Physicians at a Telehealth clinic for Rockwell Collins employees. This is my ease into retirement job! Too young to retire but needed a change. Steve continues to work for HyVee.
We all know that life is too short after reading about our fellow classmates that have left us too soon and for myself after my brother, Capt. Jeff Kleinow (MCHS 1979) died suddenly at 50, I try to enjoy every day. Steve and I try to take a couple of vacations a year. We are heading to New Orleans for Mardi Gras in March 2019 to cross another thing off my bucket list! I enjoy traveling, reading, cross-stitch and spending time with family and friends. My parents continue to live in Mason City so I get up there often.
Looking forward to seeing you at the reunion. Thank you to the committee who has been working hard to put all this together.

I am a single mother of beautiful dogs, a MinPin, Ginger Rays, and a King Charles Caviler, Bonnie. I live in Roanoke VA. I moved here in 2014. Before that I had lived in Des Moines about 30 yrs. I moved to Roanoke after both my parents passed. My only living relative lives here, my Aunt Carolyn. Her granddaughter was my Goddaughter. I have other Godchildren in Iowa and I usually come to Iowa once a year to visit.
As an adult I served as an adult adviser with Rainbow Girls. I was active in Eastern Star (both Masonic organizations). I have also remained active in the Episcopal Church. I sing in the choir.
For personal enjoyment I love to read and enjoy gardening and needle work. I may not be a Mom, but have several Godchildren and they all keep me busy.
My favorite memory from High School. Being with friends, Mohawk Follies, chorus.

Beth Kuehn Ehlers

I married Steve Ehlers (not from Mason City) in 1984 and we moved to Rockford, Illinois where I worked in Student Services as a Residence Director for Rockford College. Our first daughter was born in Rockford and shortly after her arrival, we moved to Mason City.
